ASHEVILLE - The Asheville Tourists matched their biggest offensive inning of the season on Tuesday night. Asheville plated eight runs in the second inning against the Rome Braves and held on to win 11-6.
The Tourists sent 14 batters to the plate in the second inning alone, including 11 straight with two outs. Casey Golden hit a one-out Home Run to tie the score 1-1 and seven runs later Asheville had an 8-1 lead. Sean Bouchard delivered a three-run double in the frame. Bret Boswell and Ryan Vialde each had RBI singles. Matt McLaughlin and Taylor Snyder both worked bases loaded walks.
After Rome scored twice in the top of the fifth, Asheville plated three more in the bottom half. Bouchard and Chad Spanberger both managed RBI singles and Snyder chipped in a sacrifice fly.
Nick Kennedy earned his first win of the year with a six-inning starting pitching performance. Kennedy struck out a season-high eight batters. Erick Julio followed with four strikeouts over the next two frames and Robert Tyler struck out a pair in the ninth.
Bouchard finished 3-for-5 with a game-high four RBI. Tyler Bugner recorded three hits in his McCormick Field debut. Golden and Vilade both reached base four times in the win.
Asheville and Rome are back at it for game two of the three-game set on Wednesday night with the first pitch slated for 7:05pm.
