
Three GreenJackets Named to 2018 All-Star Team

North Augusta, SC: The Augusta GreenJackets, South Atlantic League affiliate of San Francisco Giants, are sending three players to the 2018 All-Star Game in Greensboro, North Carolina. Starting pitchers Joey Marciano and John Gavin were selected, along with shortstop Manuel Geraldo. The game will be played Tuesday, June 19th at 7:05 pm.
Starting Pitcher Joey Marciano comes into the All-Star Game with an impressive 4-1 record. His 2.17 ERA is currently 10th best in the South Atlantic League. Marciano has also struck out 43 batters this season. The 23-year-old from Carbondale, Illinois was a 36th round pick by the San Francisco Giants in the 2017 draft.
John Gavin was another GreenJackets starting pitcher selected to represent the GreenJackets. Gavin is 2-3 on the season with an ERA of 2.01. That is 8th best in the South Atlantic League for overall ERA. In his 10 starts this season, he has struck out 55 batters. The 22-year-old who grew up a lifelong San Francisco Giants fan in San Jose, California. He was drafted by the Giants in the 8th round of the 2017 MLB draft.
Manuel Geraldo will be the only fielder to represent Augusta in the All-Star Game. Geraldo is batting .317 on the season, which is 6th best in South Atlantic League. He leads the GreenJackets in RBIs with 31 and is tied for the most home runs on the team with 8. Geraldo is also tied for third in the South Atlantic League with 14 stolen bases on the season. The 21-year-old was signed by the San Francisco Giants in 2013.
