Chicago Wolves News Release

The Atlanta Thrashers have assigned defenseman NOAH WELCH to the Chicago Wolves.

WELCH has not appeared in any games with the Thrashers this season. Last year, the 27-year-old blueliner split the season between the National Hockey League's Florida Panthers and Tampa Bay Lightning, and the American Hockey League's Rochester Americans. He recorded two points (G, A) and 25 penalty minutes in 40 NHL outings with the Panthers and Lightning, and three assists in seven AHL tilts with the Americans.

Overall, the Brighton, Mass., native has registered nine points (4G, 5A) and 59 penalty minutes in 73 career NHL games with the Pittsburgh Penguins (2005-07), Panthers (2007-09) and Lightning (2008-09). He also has notched 16 goals, 43 assists, 59 points and 154 penalty minutes in 122 career AHL matchups with Rochester (2006-07; 2008-09) and the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins (2005-07).

Prior to going pro, WELCH spent four seasons at Harvard University (ECAC), where he compiled 23 goals, 53 assists and 76 points in 129 games.

The Wolves host a pair of tilts at the Allstate Arena this weekend, when they take on the Lake Erie Monsters on Friday at 7:30 p.m., and the Texas Stars on Saturday at 7 p.m.
