Birmingham, AL - The Birmingham Barons defeated the Mississippi Braves 5-1 Thursday night in front of 8,346 fans at Regions Field.
Trayce Thompson supplied most of the team's offense Thursday, putting the Barons on the board early with a two-run home run to straight away center field against 2014 All-Star starting pitcher Williams Perez (3-4, 2.66).
The lead grew to 3-0 in the second on an RBI groundout by Jamie Pedroza and to 5-0 in the fourth after a sacrifice fly by Jared Mitchell and an RBI single by Thompson. Perez allowed five runs on seven hits over 4.0 IP.
Barons starter David Cales (2-0, 3.03), starting in place of Chris Beck who was promoted to Triple-A Charlotte earlier in the day, allowed just three hits over 5.0 scoreless inning while picking up his second win of the season.
Thompson finished the night 2-for-3 with three RBI while Rangel Ravelo extended his hitting streak to 13 games in the fourth with a base hit and finished 2-for-4.
Reliever Jarrett Casey replaced Cales in the sixth and allowed just two hits and a run over 4.0 innings, picking up his first save of the season in the process.
