Gagnon Leads Stars to Win

Huntsville, AL-The Huntsville Stars got an outstanding start from RHP Drew Gagnon(5-2) and just enough offense from C Lucas May leading them past the Montgomery Biscuits 4-1 Thursday night at Joe Davis Stadium.

May gave the Stars the lead in the bottom of the second inning. He hit a two-out solo homerun over the wall in left field for his first homerun of the year.

The Biscuits tied the game against Gagnon in the top of the fourth inning. Jake Hager led off by tripling down the right field line. The next batter Taylor Motter brought Hager home on an rbi single into centerfield tying the game at 1-1.

The Stars took the lead for good in the bottom of the fourth.

Jason Rogers worked a one out walk against Montgomery starter Victor Mateo(8-5). Hainley Statia then grounded out second base.

With two outs and Rogers at second base, D'Vontrey Richardson hit a grounder to the second baseman Ryan Brett. Brett, tired to scoop the ball and he couldn't handle it allowing Richardson to reach.

With Lucas May at the plate, Mateo attempted to pick off Richardson at first base. Jeff Malm the first baseman chased Richardson towards second base, but instead threw home trying to get Rogers. His throw sailed over the catcher Luke Maile's head scoring Rogers and Richardson went to third base.

May then singled into left field scoring Richardson.

The Stars got an insurance run in the seventh on a Kentrail Davis sacrifice fly making it 4-1.

Gagnon worked seven innings allowing four hits. He allowed just one run and struck out four.

Jose De La Torre worked a scoreless eighth and ninth innings to record his first save of the season. De La Torre struck out three out of the Stars bullpen.

May finished 2-2 with two rbi in the Stars win.

Montgomery(5-3, 40-38) leads the series 2-1. Game four of the series will be Friday night. The Stars(4-4, 50-28) will have LHP Brent Suter(7-5, 3.45) on the mound. Montgomery will turn to RHP Angel Sanchez(0-1, 11.25). The game can be heard with Steve Jarnicki starting at 6:15 pm CDT on 92.9 FM, 1450 AM and wtkiradio.com.
