Jackson Generals News Release

JACKSON, TENN. - The Generals (2-6/33-44) were shut out for just the seventh time this season as Tennessee Smokies (6-2/39-38) starter Corey Black (3-5, 3.03) helped his team to a 4-0 victory Thursday in Jackson. Black went 5.1 innings and scattered six hits as he earned his third win of the season. The Smokies take the series with their third win in the five-game set and have taken six of seven in Jackson from the Generals.

Jackson starter Victor Sanchez (3-4, 4.61) ran into trouble in the third inning as Elliot Soto led off with a single and moved to second on a single by Jae-Hoon Ha. Then Stephen Bruno singled to score Soto and Ha and Bruno moved up to second on a fielding error by Dario Pizzano (0x4). Christian Villanueva followed with another RBI single that scored Bruno and also advanced to second on a Jackson error. Villanueva came around to score on Charlie Cutler's double and the lead was 4-0 Smokies. The inning produced six of the Smokies' 11 hits.

The Generals threatened a few times as they picked up nine hits against Tennessee pitching, but left 10 runners on base including runners on first and third in each the first and fourth innings. Kevin Rivers (2x3, 2 2B, BB) doubled twice and joined Julio Morban (2x4) and Leon Landry (2x4) with two hit nights. Rivers also gave Jackson some promise leading off the ninth with a double, but was stranded on third.

D.J. Peterson (1x3, 2B, BB) made his highly anticipated Double-A debut on the evening and was 1-for-3 with a double and a walk.

The Generals and Smokies will play game four of the series Friday at the Ballpark in Jackson. Jackson will send Tyler Pike (0-0, 0.00) to the mound to make his home debut as Edward Figueroa (0-0, 4.73) will be on the hill for Tennessee. Friday is Flatscreen Friday with a lucky fan walking away with a new 50 inch television. The game will begin at 7:05 p.m. and can be heard on 96.5 ESPN, TuneIn Radio and jacksongeneralsbaseball.com.
