Suns Come Back Late, Eke out 4-3 Win in 10 Innings over BayBears

MOBILE, AL - The Jacksonville Suns (4-3, 40-37) came back to force extra innings for the second consecutive game and stunned the Mobile BayBears (3-5, 45-32) with a 4-3 victory in 10 innings on Thursday night from Hank Aaron Stadium.

Justin Nicolino allowed two runs (both earned) on six hits in his five innings of work, while not walking a batter and striking out four in a no decision.

James Nygren allowed one run (earned) on two hits in 1.1 innings of work, striking out three batters while issuing one walk.

Frankie Reed worked 0.2 hitless innings, walking a batter and striking out a batter in his scoreless outing.

Jheyson Manzueta (W, 4-1) earned the win for Jacksonville after striking out two batters and walking one in two rock solid innings of hitless relief.

Greg Nappo (SV, 1) picked up his first save of the year after giving up three hits but not allowing a single run to score in his one inning of work.

Arizona Diamondbacks top prospect Archie Bradley did not factor into the decision after allowing one run (earned) on three hits, while walking four batters and striking out one in four innings of work.

Seth Simmons (L, 0-1) took the loss after allowing one run (earned) on three hits, with a walk and a pair of strikeouts in his 1.2 innings of relief.

The BayBears hopped on the scoreboard first in the bottom of the first inning, using Dustin Martin's two-out RBI single to take a 1-0 lead after the first inning of play.

The Suns tied the ballgame up in the top of the third, when Austin Nola's RBI double plated Terrence Dayleg to make it a 1-1 game.

Dustin Martin (HR, 4) gave the BayBears a 2-1 lead after leading off the bottom of the fourth inning with a home run to center field.

Mobile furthered their lead in the bottom of the seventh, as Ryan Court came around to score on Sean Jamieson's RBI single to make it a 3-1 BayBears lead.

The Suns battled to tie the game at 3-3 in the top of the eighth inning, receiving back-to-back RBI singles from Austin Barnes and J.T. Realmuto.

Jacksonville plated the go-ahead run in the top of the 10th inning, receiving a pinch-hit RBI single from Rich Poythress to put the Suns up for good at 4-3.

Joe Benson came up with a game-saving play in center field in the bottom of the 10th, preserving Jacksonville's one-run lead by throwing out Tom Belza at home on Jon Griffin's single.

The Suns and BayBears will be back at it on Friday, with first pitch set for 7:05 p.m. CT (8:05 p.m. ET). The Suns will send out right-hander Matt Montgomery (1-1, 4.91) while the BayBears will counter with a righty of their own in Charles Brewer (3-2, 2.37).
