Waterloo Black Hawks News Release
The Waterloo Black Hawks climbed past the Omaha Lancers and into sole possession of third place in the United States Hockey League Western Conference, thanks to a 4-0 win against Omaha at Ralston Arena Saturday.
The two teams had entered the game tied, with 49 standings points each.
Cale Morris made 20 saves for the shutout victory. He turned away eight Omaha chances in both the first and second periods. The shutout was his first of the season and fifth as a member of the Black Hawks.
Following a scoreless first period, the Black Hawks converted a couple of transition chances in the second. An errant Omaha shot off the end glass sprang a Waterloo rush the other direction. David Cotton's shot was denied, but Yuri Terao cashed in on the rebound at 6:19. Another rebound gave the Hawks a 2-0 lead at 14:51. Liam Pecararo's initial chance from the left circle was denied, but Kevin Charyszyn was on the spot to capitalize on the second opportunity.
Pecararo added to the lead at 9:36 of the third period. With the Lancers expecting an icing call, Garrett Wait swiped the puck on the right boards and fed it to Pecararo between the circles, where the veteran fired it off the iron and past Kris Oldham. Sam McCormick added an empty-netter during his first game as a Black Hawk with 5:49 remaining.
The Hawks return to home ice next weekend to face the Dubuque Fighting Saints on Friday and the Sioux Falls Stampede Saturday. The first 500 fans Friday will receive a Vince Hinostroza alumni series stadium cup, presented by Beck's Taproom Grill and Hurricane Grill & Wings. In addition, 1,500 fans will take home a Black Hawks koozie, courtesy of Cedar Valley Urology. For tickets, visit waterlooblackhawks.com or call the Domino's Black Hawks Box Office at (319) 291-7680.
