Dubuque Fighting Saints News Release
DUBUQUE, Iowa - It took the third shootout of the season for the Dubuque Fighting Saints to take a losing decision. Parker Tuomie scored the winner in the second round of the shootout, elevating the Sioux Falls Stampede to a 4-3 win at the Mystique Community Ice Center on Saturday night.
Tuomie and Eric MacAdams scored in back-to-back rounds, responding to Zach Solow's first round shot to lift Sioux Falls to the win. Stampede goaltender Stefanos Lekkas denied Brett Boeing and Petter Mî=A4kitalo in consecutive rounds to seal it up. The Saints had a chance following Josh Passolt's miss off of the goal post, but to no avail.
Both teams traded a pair of goals in a wild second period that featured a bit more rough stuff. Nathan Sucese corralled a rebound off of a shot by Ryan Zuhlsdorf, and scored his 19th goal of the season to put the Fighting Saints up 2-1. Spenser Young added a power play goal, a one-time blast from the left point, to extend the Fighting Saints lead to 3-1.
Sioux Falls responded twice late. Joe Rutkowski jumped into an odd-man rush with under three minutes to play and fired a laser through Jaxon Castor to cut the lead to one. Passolt, just under two minutes later, tied the game.
And, just like last night, both teams traded goals in the first period. Mî=A4kitalo started the scoring on a pass from Shane Kavanagh. Sioux Falls continued its late goal-scoring surge trend, and capitalized on a broken play late. MacAdams pounced on a puck at the left faceoff dot on a partial break, and with Castor racing out to poke the puck away, he fired a shot into the vacant goal.
Lekkas stopped 37 out of 40 shots for his sixth win in his last nine appearances. Castor suffered his first overtime loss of the season, but has still won five of his last seven starts.
The Fighting Saints end the weekend with three out of a possible four points. Up next for the Fighting Saints is a back-to-back swing with Cowbell Cup rivals Waterloo and Cedar Rapids. Join all of the action on Dubuque's Super Hits 106.1 FM on Friday starting at 6:50 p.m.
