Madison Capitols News Release
Youngstown, OH - The Madison Capitols (20-22-4-3) close out a nine-game, 36-day road trip tonight as they visit the Youngstown Phantoms (23-16-4-5) at the Covelli Centre for a 6:05 p.m. start.
In their first game since acquiring a trio of new players at the trading deadline, the Capitols were unable to sustain an early burst on Friday night in a 4-2 defeat. Marcel Godbout opened the scoring at the 5:05 mark of the first, just moments after a Capitol power play expired.
Godbout's goal, however, would provide a wake-up call and, in turn, a boost of energy for the Phantoms, who rattled off three unanswered goals to take a 3-1 lead in the second period.
The Youngstown power play struck twice on a night where they entered play with the league's worst man advantage statistically.
Eugene Fadyeyev brought the Capitols back within a single goal late in the second on a shot from a bad angle on the right wing side, and it appeared Madison would have a good chance to tie when they drew a late power play in the middle period. However, Youngstown caused a turnover deep in the Capitols zone as Drew Hotte misfired on a pass, resulting in a shorthanded goal by Luke McInnis to propel the Phantoms to the winning score of 4-2.
The Capitols are 4-2-2-0 thus far on the season's lengthiest trip. The Caps will finally return to the Alliant Energy Center for the first time in over five weeks for the next four games, which includes another stint with the Phantoms on Saturday, March 12 at 7:05 p.m.
March 11 marks the Capitols' Cross Check Cancer initiative, as proceeds from ticket package purchases will benefit the UW Carbone Cancer Center, in conjunction with UW Health Sports Medicine, the Capitols' 2015-16 presenting sponsor.
March 12 brings about the return of four-legged friends to the Coliseum on Pucks N' Paws night, presented by Animart. Dogs will be permitted into the Alliant Energy Center on game night, and each pup will receive a doggy goody bag!
