Kalamazoo, MI -- The Washington Wild Things (61-32), presented by Washington Federal Savings Bank, won their 61st game of the 2004 season Friday at Homer Striker Field in Kalamazoo, Michigan when they bested the Kings by a score of 10-7. The Wild Things took two of three games versus the Kings in the series.

The Wild Things jumped out to an early lead in the game when John Cahill scored in the third inning. Then in the fourth inning Washington added three more runs; in the fifth they continued to add to their lead with an additional two runs upping the score to 6-0.

But the Kings came back to answer them in the fifth inning with two runs.

The Wild Things scored three more times in the top of the sixth inning, but in the bottom of the sixth the Kings rallied and scored five runs closing the gap to 9-7.

In the top of the ninth Cornell scored the 10th and final run of the game for the Wild Things' 29th victory on the road.

Seven pitchers, including four Wild Things, threw in the game. Adam Palmer, who was perfect through four innings and gets the win, pitched five innings. Palmer gave up two hits and struck out one. Brendon Davis allowed six hits and struck out one. Jim Popp allowed no hits and struck out one. And B.J. Borsa, pitched one inning, gave up no hits and stuck out one. Borsa got his 19th save of the season, breaking the Wild Things' franchise record of 18 (set by Robert Garvin).

The Wild Things return to Falconi Field Saturday when they host the Chillicothe Paints. The Wild Things will pay tribute to the Washington Red Birds, who played Minor League Baseball in Washington in 1939. The 6:05 p.m. game will be broadcast live on Fox Sports Net Pittsburgh and can be heard on the Wild Things' Radio Network (WJPA 95.3 FM, Froggy 940 AM and 1340 AM, WOMP 1290 AM, and WSTV 1340 AM).
