ROCKFORD, Ill. â The Rockford RiverHawks clinched a Frontier League playoff berth for the first time despite Thursday's 2-0 loss to Gateway.
Third-place River City split a doubleheader, winning 19-6 in the opener, but dropping the eight-inning nightcap, 8-7.
The Rockford franchise had not qualified for the playoffs since 1998, when as the Springfield Capitals, it won the pennant by defeating Evansville, two games to one, in the first round, and Chillicothe, two games to one, in the championship round.
The franchise moved to Rockford after the 2001 season.
Home-field advantage in the first round, to be played between Rockford and Gateway, is contingent on which team wins the West Division title. If Rockford holds onto its one-game lead in the division, it will host Games 1, 2 and 5 (if necessary). The playoffs start on Wednesday, Sept. 1.
Playoff tickets are now available. The RiverHawks are offering an all-sessions pass for $40. It's the only way to reserve your seat at as many as five postseason games the RiverHawks host. If the RiverHawks do not host five, the unused portion of your account will be applied toward the purchase of a 2005 ticket plan at the RiverHawks' new stadium in Loves Park.
