The Royal Road Ahead: Reading at Kalamazoo Wings

February 20, 2015 - ECHL (ECHL)
Reading Royals News Release

ROYALS PRE-GAME NOTES

- This evening, the Royals continue the team's five game road trip which will conclude tomorrow at US Bank Arena in Cincinnati where Reading will face the Cincinnati Cyclones for the final time this season.

This trip began on Wednesday, February 11 with a 5-0 win in Cincinnati; the Royals then traveled to WesBanco Arena in Wheeling, West Virginia, last Friday (February 13) where the team earned the first point in the standings in five trips (0-4-1-0) to Wheeling in a 3-2 overtime loss; and the Royals then visited First Arena in Elmira, New York, on Saturday (February 14), where Reading pulled away from the Jackals, 7-3.

- This marks the third and final game of the 2014-15 regular season for the Royals at Wings Stadium in Kalamazoo. Reading and Kalamazoo played back-to-back games here in mid-November. The Royals took both ends of that two-game set, defeating the Wings in a shootout (4-3) on Friday, November 14, and following that up with a 3-1 win over Kalamazoo on Saturday, November 15.

- This is the twenty-fourth match-up in team history between the Royals and K-Wings, who joined the ECHL in 2009-10. Historically, Reading has compiled a record of 12-9-2 against the Wings. The two organizations have met twice in the post-season during their respective histories. Reading won the 2010 American Conference Quarter-Final best-of-five on a dramatic overtime game winner in Game Five by Andrew Sarauer; and the K-Wings responded by sweeping the Royals out of playoffs (4 games to none) in the 2011 Eastern Conference Semi-Finals.

- The Royals enter tonight's game riding the longest string of consecutive regular season games without a regulation loss in team history at fourteen games (13-0-1-0). (The Royals did actually go fourteen straight without a regulation loss in 2010; but that began with the final two games of the regular season-and extended through the first twelve games of the playoff season: 12-0-2.)

- Reading has compiled a record of 25-5-1-0 in the team's last thirty-one games, dating back to a 2-0 win over the South Carolina Stingrays on December 7, 2014. That translates into a .823 win percentage during that time span.

- The Royals lead the Eastern Conference with thirty-four wins and are tied with the Allen Americans for the league lead in that category.

- The Royals currently have the best record in the fourteen year history of the team through fifty games at 34-13-2-1=71. That surpasses the previous best record through fifty which was established in the 2012- 13 season (32-12-3-3=70).

- Reading is currently riding a nine game road unbeaten streak (8-0-1-0), which is tied for the longest point streak on the road in the ECHL this season. (Toledo had a nine game unbeaten road streak earlier in the season; and Indy is currently riding an active nine game road point streak.)

- The Royals' eighteen road wins (18-5-1-0) is second most in the league to the Fort Wayne Komets (19-7- 0-1).

- The Kalamazoo Wings play in the North Division. The Royals have compiled a record of 19-7-1-0 against teams from the North with eleven games (including tonight) to go against the North.

- The Royals tied the team's season-high for offensive production with a 7-3 win over Elmira last Saturday. Reading also scored seven goals against the Evansville Icemen (7-2) on January 28.

- The Royals come into tonight's game with a plus-40 (+40) goal differential (183 goals for - 143 goals against), which is third best in the league to the Allen Americans (+67) and Toledo Walleye (+60).

- Reading scored four power play goals in last Saturday's 7-3 win in Elmira, tying the team season-high for PPGs in a single game. (The Royals also scored four power play goals against the Gwinnett Gladiators on January 25.)

- The Royals have scored at least one power play goal in fourteen of the last twenty games, going 24 for 88 with the man advantage during that span (27.3% scoring ratio).

- Reading's penalty kill has knocked off 54 of the last 60 chances with the man advantage over a span of the last sixteen games, which is a 90.0% kill ratio during that time span.

- Pat Mullane leads the Royals with fifty-one points (20g-31a) in fifty games, which places him ninth in the ECHL scoring race. Mullane, who leads the Royals with six power play goals, has recorded a team- leading sixteen multi-point performances this season.

- Cam Reid is riding a three game point streak (2g-4a=6pts) and has seventeen points (8g-9a) in his last eleven games. His forty-seven points (20g-27a) is eighteenth in ECHL scoring. Reid, who is tied with Pat Mullane for the team lead with twenty goals, scored his sixth game winner of the year in Elmira last Saturday.

- Olivier Labelle has seventeen points (7g-10a) in his last fourteen games. His 174 career points (89g-85a) in 206 games as a Royal is third most in team history-five points behind Yannick Tifu (66g- 113a=179pts in 184 games).

- Adam Hughesman is riding a three game point streak (2g-3a=5pts). Hughesman, who has recorded twelve multi-point games this season, has nineteen points (8g-11a) in his last eighteen games.

- Defenseman Mike Marcou is currently tied for thirteenth in defensemen scoring with twenty-eight points (4g-24a) in 48 games with the Royals. Marcou's thirteen power play assists leads all defensemen in the league; and his fifteen power play points is tied for the league lead amongst d-men.

- Defenseman Maxim Lamarche scored his first power play goal of the year-and engaged in his second fight of the year-in last Saturday's 7-3 win in Elmira. Lamarche leads the Royals in plus-minus at plus- 20 (+20).

- Defenseman Jordan Heywood is riding a three game point streak (1g-3a=4pts). Heywood, who recorded his fifth multi-point games of the year last Saturday in Elmira, has five points (2g-3a) in his last five games.

- Defenseman Michael Caruso is riding a three game point streak (1g-2a).

- Defenseman Bryant Molle already has a career high thirteen points (1g-12a) for Reading. He is the all- time plus-minus leader for the Royals, playing to a plus-45 (+45) in 171 games with the team (which is fifth most in team history-five games behind Reagan Rome).

- Goaltender Connor Knapp, who recorded his first shutout as a Royal (and his second as a pro) in Cincinnati on Wednesday, February 11, is riding a nine game unbeaten streak (8-0-1-0). He is 12-2-1-0 in his last fifteen games with Reading. His seventeen wins this season is more than his total wins recorded (16) in his prior 41 ECHL games coming into this season.
