Texas League All-Star Rosters Announced

FRISCO, TX - Texas League President Tom Kayser has announced the rosters for the 73rd Texas League All-Star Game on Wednesday, July 1 at Dr Pepper Ballpark. It marks the second time the Frisco RoughRiders will host the All-Star Game, previously holding the event in 2005.

The ‘Riders will be represented on the South squad by four players: 1B Justin Smoak, C Manny Pina, LHP Kasey Kiker, and RHP Omar Poveda. Midland and Springfield led all teams with nine representatives each. Other notable 2009 All-Stars include: Adrian Cardenas (Midland), Mike Baxter (San Antonio), Craig Cooper (San Antonio), Andrew Locke (Corpus Christi), Jhoulys Chacin (Tulsa), and Trevor Bell (Arkansas). The South team will be managed by Frisco skipper Mike Micucci and the North team will be led by 2008 Texas League Champion Arkansas manager Bobby Magallanes.

"We are very honored and excited to host the Texas League All-Star Game and look forward to seeing the best-of-the-best in the Texas League at Dr Pepper Ballpark," said RoughRiders President & General Manager Scott Sonju. "This will be a great event for our fans and the City of Frisco."

The All-Star Game will be played between the two divisions in the Texas League with all eight teams represented. The league moved to North and South divisions three years ago with the South winning the past three All-Star Games. Last season, the RoughRiders' Steve Murphy was named All-Star Game MVP, the only Frisco player to ever win the award, leading the South to a 7-3 win in 10 innings. The festivities will begin on Tuesday night with an All-Star Dinner followed on Wednesday by the Home Run Derby at 5:45 p.m. and first pitch at 7:05 p.m. with postgame fireworks also scheduled.
