Rockford, IL - The Texas Stars (11-2-1-2, 25 points) defeated the Rockford Ice Hogs (7-9-1-1, 16 points) 4-0 on Friday night in front of 2,934 fans at the Rockford MetroCentre. Texas goalie Brent Krahn (7-1-0-0) made 32 saves for his second shutout of the season and the 15th of his career. Stars forwards Scott McCulloch and Warren Peters each had a goal and an assist as Texas improved to 7-0-1-1 in the last nine games. Wingers Sergei Korostin and Colton Sceviour also added tallies, helping Texas move to 4-1-1-1 on the road this year. Texas has now suffered only one loss in regulation in the last 15 games. Rockford goalie Corey Crawford (5-7-0-1) took the loss with 23 saves. Texas will host Chicago on Saturday night at 7:00 pm.
After a scoreless first period, Texas opened the scoring with the only goal of the second period. Forward Raymond Sawada snapped a pass from the left wing to the Rockford crease. Stars winger Scott McCulloch was parked in front of the Ice Hogs net for the tip in, giving Texas a 1-0 lead at 5:10 of the middle frame.
In the third period, the Stars erupted for three goals in nearly five minutes. The scoring spree started at 8:17 of the final frame. Warren Peters netted his second goal in as many nights, finishing off a give and go with Mathieu Beaudoin for a 2-0 Texas lead. Only 2:15 later, the Stars lead grew to 3-0 after Colton Sceviour tipped in a rebound for his second goal of the season at 10:32. Texas finalized the scoring at 12:25, as Sergei Korostin snapped a wrist shot past Corey Crawford for the 4-0 score. Korostin's seventh goal of the season was set up by Peters.
Texas returns to Cedar Park Center on Saturday to host the Chicago Wolves at 7:00 pm. Fans may purchase the State Farm Family 4-pack , which includes four tickets, four hot dogs and four soft drinks for $44.00. Also, the first 1,000 kids under 12 into the arena will receive a Texas Stars t-shirt.
