Albany Devils News Release
LOWELL, Mass. - Tyler Eckford scored twice on the power play and the Lowell Devils stretched their winning streak to four games in a 5-1 win versus the Worcester Sharks on Friday at the Tsongas Arena. The victory wrapped a sweep of a home-and-home series with the Sharks, as the Devils took the 7-3 decision on Wednesday at the DCU Center.
Holding a 2-0 edge going into the third period, Alexander Vasyunov added to the Devils' goal total just 32 seconds in when he completed a 2-on-1 with a wrist shot past the glove of Tyson Sexsmith.
Lowell hoped to add to its lead with a power play five minutes later, but instead it was Michael Wilson following up on a shorthanded rush and sending the puck over a fallen Jeff Frazee.
The Devils needed only 30 seconds to retake their three-goal cushion as Eckford blasted a one-timer into the back of the net to make the score 4-1. Eckford struck again two minutes later, sending a slapshot that beat Sexsmith to the far post.
Frazee made 20 saves to win his third straight and raise his record to 3-3-0. The Devils netminder has allowed only four goals over his last three starts.
After a scoreless first period, Ben Walter gave the Devils a 1-0 lead just 1:03 into the second. Tyson Sexsmith was able to stop Walter's wrister from the slot, but the Lowell center was able to gather his own rebound and backhand his fifth of the season into the top of net.
Vladimir Zharkov made it a two-goal cushion for Lowell 1:39 before the intermission when he found a loose puck behind the net and sneaked a wraparound under the pad of Sexsmith.
The Lowell Devils complete their two-game homestand on Saturday, November 14 at 7:00PM versus the Providence Bruins.
