Providence Bruins News Release
Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins, in their 18th year in the American Hockey League, announced that they have signed forward Jon Rheault to a Professional Tryout Agreement. With the move, the P-Bruins have 23 players on their roster, including 14 forwards, seven defensemen and two goaltenders.
Rheault, 23, is in his second professional season after beginning the campaign with the ECHL's Ontario Reign. In 13 games this season, Rheault leads the Reign in scoring with 15 points, including a club-high nine goals. Presently, the right wing is tied for second in the ECHL in goals scored and shares ninth-place in overall scoring. Rheault also has four multiple-point games to his credit, notching three points on three different occasions.
Rheault split his rookie season in 2008-09 between Ontario and the AHL's Manchester Monarchs. For the Reign, Rheault finished the year with 41 points (19g, 22a) in just 51 regular season games before adding eight points (4g, 4a) in seven postseason contests. In his only prior AHL experience, Rheault suited up for 24 games with the Monarchs, registering five points (2g, 3a).
Prior to turning pro, the Arlington, Texas, native enjoyed four seasons playing for the Providence College Friars. In his collegiate career, Rheault totaled 105 points (56g, 49a) in 142 games, which ranks him tied for 42nd on PC's all-time scoring list. Rheault was selected by the Philadelphia Flyers 145th overall in round five of the 2006 National Hockey League Entry Draft.
