Lancaster Stormers News Release
LANCASTER, Pa.-After a surprise release by the New York Yankees, Terry Tiffee has returned to the Lancaster Barnstormers.
The former Minnesota Twins third baseman was batting .345 with 13 doubles, three homers and 13 RBI for Class AAA Scranton/Wilkes-Barre of the International League when he was cut loose by the New York system, which had signed him on June 22.
Tiffee, 32, was batting .297 with 10 homers and 41 RBI when he left Lancaster. At the time, he was on an 11-game hitting streak, during which he swung at a .475 clip (19-for-40) with four homers and 15 RBI. He had his biggest game of the season at Campbell's Field in Camden, New Jersey, belting two homers and driving in six runs on May 31.
A 26th round pick in the 1999 draft, Tiffee had a fine career coming up through the Minnesota farm system. He batted over .300 in the 2001, 2003 and 2004 seasons and was on the year-end All-Star team in the Eastern League in 2003.
The Arkansas native made it to the Majors near the end of 2004 and had game-winning hits in two of his first four games. He spent parts of four seasons at the Major League level with the Twins and the Los Angeles Dodgers, appearing in 97 total games. Tiffee has amassed five big league homers.
The switch hitter also won the Pacific League batting crown with a .378 mark in 2008. He played at Lehigh Valley in 2009 and missed all of 2010 following back surgery.
He will be in uniform tonight as the Barnstormers open a three-game series in Camden. To make room on the roster, the Barnstormers have placed right-handed pitcher Cesar Carrillo on the inactive list. Carrillo was 4-11 with a 7.16 ERA.
