
Crabs Make a 'Pitch' for Playoffs

Waldorf, MD - With two and-a-half weeks to go In the regular season, the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs added two right-handed starters to their pitching staff
before Thursday's game against the Bridgeport Bluefish.
The Blue Crabs received Ben Moore from the Sioux Falls Pheasants of the American Association for future considerations. Moore has pitched the last four seasons
with the Pheasants while compiling a career 56-49 record with a 4.56 ERA in over eight seasons entering 2011. This season for Sioux Falls, Moore won a career-high
13 games against four losses while registering a 2.92 ERA in 22 games, 21 of which he started. It was his second-consecutive season of 10 or more wins after going
11-8 for the Pheasants in 2009 with a 3.10 ERA.
The St. Croix Falls, WI native is a former farmhand of the New York Yankees where he reached as high as double-A Trenton in 2004. He has also seen
action in the now defunct Northern League with Joliet (IL), Calgary, and Winnipeg.
On Wednesday, the Blue Crabs also received pitcher David Trahan of the Sioux City Explorers, also of the American Association, for a player to be named later and
cash. Trahan just finished his season with the Explorers and compiled a 5-2 record with a 2.67 ERA in 16 games, including 12 as a starter. That was after the right- hander began the season with Tabasco of the Mexican League.
Trahan, from Galveston, TX, was drafted by the Montreal Expos/Washington Nationals in the 21st round of the 2004 MLB Draft where he proceeded to reach double- A Harrisburg while with the Nationals in 2007. He has also pitched in the Northern League with Kansas City and has spent the last three seasons with the Explorers.
In other news, the Blue Crabs placed left-handed reliever Bryan Dumesnil on the inactive list today after the pitcher decided to go back to college as part of a
scholarship he earned after signing his first pro contract in 2002. Dumesnil finished the season as one of Southern Maryland's top relievers after going 2-1 with a 3.21
ERA in 35 relief appearances.
The Blue Crabs and Bluefish will square off in a day-night doubleheader to wrap-up their three-game series. Both games will be nine innings long. Game one will feature right-hander Virgil Vasquez (7-6, 4.49 ERA) for the Blue Crabsagainst fellow righty Matt Pike of the Bluefish.first of a critical three-game series on Wednesday at 7:05. Southern Maryland will send righty Nick Green (9-5, 3.59 ERA) to the hill against fellow-righty Esteban Yan (5-11, 4.23 ERA) of the Bluefish. The game can be heard on www.somdbluecrabs.com.
