
Team Canada Names Phillips & Suzuki to Pre-Competition Roster

VICTORIA - Owen Sound Attack defenceman Markus Phillips and forward Nick Suzuki have been named to the pre-competition roster for Team Canada ahead of the 2019 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championships, set to take place in Vancouver and Victoria beginning boxing day.
Phillips and Suzuki have both made it through the selection camp as Hockey Canada cut the team down from 35 players to 24 players who will now participate in Canada's 3 pre-tournament games, starting this Wednesday night against Switzerland. Team Canada now has 15 forwards, 7 defenceman and 2 goalies left in camp.
Suzuki played in all three scrimmages against the USports all-star team registering 0 points and a miss during the shootout, while Phillips played in the final two scrimmages, playing in the top pairing in the final scrimmage. The Attack teammates have been involved in the Hockey Canada programs for a couple of years with both competing at the Canada Summer Games for Team Ontario, at the Ivan Hlinka Tournament as U18's, and on separate teams as part of the World U17 Showcase.
Hockey Canada will now use the final three pre-competition games to determine their final roster for the World Junior Tournament. The schedule is included below: Wednesday, December 19, 2018 vs. Switzerland, 8pm (EST)/5pm (PST), Live on TSN3
Friday, December 21, 2018 vs. Slovakia, 8pm (EST)/5pm (PST), Live on TSN3
Sunday, December 23, 2018 vs. Finland, 10pm (EST)/7pm (PST), Live on TSN3
The 2019 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championships take place in Vancouver and Victoria, British Columbia, December 26 to January 5 with Team Canada opening its Gold Medal defence on boxing day against Denmark.
