Niagara IceDogs News Release
The Niagara IceDogs picked up the 6-2 win against the Oshawa Generals in their final game against each other this season. This makes the 'Dogs seventh straight home win, and eight game, in which they've gotten a point.
The 'Dogs kicked off the game with a couple successful penalty kills. On their own powerplay, Ben Jones scored off a rebound from Phil Tomasino, extending his point streak to nine games. The secondary assist went to Akil Thomas. A bit later, Andrew Bruder made a short push pass to Tomasino right in front of the net, who turned around to score! Elijah Roberts was credited with the other assist.
A quarter of the way through the second period, Oshawa scored to cut the 'Dogs lead to 2-1. Later on, Matt Philip swung at the puck with his back to the net and scored while turning! Thomas and Tomasino paired up to assist this goal as well.
Less than a minute into the third, Tomasino and Philip went blazing up the ice on a 2-on-1. Philip and Tomasino played tic tac goal to get him his second goal of the night. From right in front of the net, Jones got his second goal of the game, assisted by the dynamic duo Tomasino and Thomas. Oshawa got a powerplay marker, cutting the lead to 5-2. Towards the end of the game, Oshawa pulled their goalie for the extra attacker, leaving an empty net. Maksimov sent a pass to Jones through a General who was down on all fours, who scored an empty netter to get his second career hat trick!
With tonight's 6-2 win, Tomasino picked up a career high five points. He and Thomas assisted three goals together tonight.
The 'Dogs were without players Daniel Bukac (Czech Republic), Jason Robertson (USA), and Kyen Sopa (Switzerland), who are each playing with their respective teams at the World Junior Championship training camps.
