Brampton Steelheads News Release
MISSISSAUGA, ON - The Steelheads were back at home on Friday against the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds looking to kick off their three-in-three weekend with a win. With Owen Tippett away at the World Juniors, the Steelheads looked to their depth for some scoring without one of their top scorers in the lineup. The Steelheads managed to pick up a point but dropped this match against the Greyhounds in an overtime thriller.
The Steelheads came out with a bang to start the game. After a few opportunities by the Soo Greyhounds, the Steelheads responded with scoring chances of their own. They were able to beat Greyhounds' netminder Ethan Taylor but not the goal post. In the Steelheads' crease, Ingham kept the door shut for the Steelheads, coming up with two robberies, but at 8:09, Dominic Mufarreh was able to slip one past Ingham for his second goal of the season. It seemed Ryan Barbosa cleared the puck before it crossed the line, but after a lengthy review, it was deemed a good goal. 1-0 Greyounds headed to the second period.
After a strong first period by the Greyhounds, the Steelheads responded with a dominant period of their own. Just over three minutes in the second, Cole Schwindt potted his fifth goal of the year, beating Taylor glove side to tie the game at one a piece. Jacob Ingham followed suit with an impressive period of his own, stopping all shots he faced in the frame. With nine minutes to go in the second and the Steelheads powerplay about to expire, Alan Lyszczarczyk tipped in a shot from Ryan Barbosa. Lyszczarczyk's 12th goal of the season gave the Steelheads the 2-1 lead. Steelheads headed into the third period up by one.
Both teams had their chances in the third period, but unfortunately for the Steelheads, the Greyhounds were the only team able to capitalize. 12 minutes into the period, Keeghan Howdeshell scored his 26th goal of the season on the powerplay to tie the game up at two. The Steelheads put pressure on the Greyhounds, but Ethan Taylor was able to shut the door for the remainder of the third. The game headed into overtime, where it took Mac Hallowell only 1:24 into OT to put a shot passed Ingham's glove and seal the deal for the Hounds.
The Steelheads dropped their second game in a row but were able to pick up a point. They will have their chance to bounce back with two more games this weekend. They head to Guelph tomorrow to take on the Storm, then back at home on Sunday versus the Sudbury Wolves. Tickets can be purchased through Ticketmaster here.
The Steelheads have joined forces with the Pinball Clemons Foundation to host the inaugural Pinball Clemons Game at the Paramount Fine Foods Centre on Sunday, December 16th.
The Mississauga Steelheads will don specialty football-themed jerseys when they play host to the Sudbury Wolves on Sunday afternoon. The jerseys feature a Pinball Clemons Foundation patch on the shoulder and will be auctioned off online following the game with 100% of proceeds being donated to the Foundation.
Mike 'Pinball' Clemons will be in attendance on Sunday afternoon to take part in the ceremonial puck drop and sign autographs for fans who come out to support the cause.
