Felhaber Makes It Rain Teddy Tears as 67's Suffer Rare Loss
December 15, 2018 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Ottawa 67's News Release
OTTAWA - Tye Felhaber made it rain stuffed animals on Saturday afternoon as the 67's suffered a rare loss in a 6-3 decision against Owen Sound.
Felhaber's first-period goal both tied the game at once and unleashed a barrage of stuffed toys onto the ice at The Arena at TD Place. The annual tradition collects toys and cash for Make-a-Wish and CHEO.
Noel Hoefenmayer and Mitchell Hoelscher also scored for the first-place Barber Poles in their final home game before Christmas.
Kaleb Pearson opened the scoring 3:40 into the game to give the Attack a 1-0 lead, but Felhaber tied things up just about two minutes later. In all, about 7,200 stuffed animals were donated. Owen Sound scored two quick power play goals before the end of the first period, sending both teams to the locker room with a 3-1 Attack lead.
Sean Durzi was the lone goal scorer in the second period, making the score 4-1 Owen Sound after 40 minutes of play.
Hoefenmayer scored early in the third period, spurring thoughts of a comeback before Trenton Bourque made it a three-goal game once again halfway through the final frame, which ended up being the insurance goal. Hoelscher struck a few minutes later, cutting the lead to two, but it ended up being too little too late. Dudas completed the score with an empty net goal with seven seconds left in a game.
The 67's play their final game before the holiday break Sunday afternoon, as they travel to Peterborough to take on the Petes.
What they're saying
André Tourigny, 67's Head Coach
''I think the guys battled really hard. I didn't really like our first period, obviously special teams made a difference and we have to be better, but at five on five, I really like the way the guys worked. We never quit, we kept with it even we it looked like we had no hope, but we kept coming and coming until we came back, so I'm certainly proud of our character and how resilient we were.''
Game Notes
With three points today, this was Mitch Hoelscher's third three-point game in the month of December.
With a record of 25-5-3-1, the 67's have combined for an impressive total of 54 points out of a possible 68 this season.
With his 37th of the season today, Tye Felhaber now has goals in his last 8 games and has scored in 11 of his last 12 games.
In the loss, the 67's outshot Owen Sound 34-24.
