
Tarasov's Hat Trick Leads Sharks to 3-1 Win

SPRINGFIELD, MA - Daniil Tarasov recorded the first Worcester Sharks hat trick in 263 games as the Sharks (2-3-0-0, 4pts) gave the Springfield Falcons (5-1-0-1, 11pts) their 1st regulation loss of the season at the MassMutual Center on Saturday night. The Sharks return home to the renovated DCU Center with a pair of games next weekend vs. the Sound Tigers on Friday and the IceCaps on Saturday.
Daniil Tarasov extended his point streak to four games (5-2-7) with three goals and Bracken Kearns extended his point streak to five games (2-7-9) with two assists. Harri Sateri made 17 saves in his 1st win of the season as the Sharks won their first road game of the season.
The Sharks played a fantastic opening road first period and grabbed a 1-0 lead headed into the first intermission. Daniil Tarasov (3rd) struck on the power play after he found a loose puck on top of the crease and fired the puck home through the pads of Mike McKenna at 5:44 to give Worcester a 1-0 edge. Worcester outshot the Falcons 13-7 in the opening frame.
The second period saw a little bit of everything with three goals, a penalty shot, a hat trick, and two scraps as the Sharks came out on top 3-1 after 40 minutes. Jake Hansen (3rd) scored on a breakaway rush at 1:54 with a shot that broke off the glove of Harri Sateri to tie the score at 1-1. Jake Hansen was denied on a penalty shot at 7:24 after he was slashed at on another shorthanded rush. Daniil Tarasov (4th) put Worcester ahead 2-1 at 11:26 after he found a loose puck during a goal mouth scramble and fired it past the Falcons' netminder. Tarasov (5th) recorded the hat trick at 15:22 with a breakaway rush and slid the puck on the backhand through the pads of McKenna to put the Sharks ahead 3-1. Worcester led 3-1 after 40 minutes and outshot the Falcons 24-12 through two periods.
Neither team found the back of the net in the third period as the Sharks killed off three power plays for the 3-1 victory.
The Sharks overall record improves to 2-3-0-0, 4pts and 1-1-0-0, 2pts on the road.
