Portland Pirates News Release

Albany, NY - The Portland Pirates look to continue their winning ways as they travel to Albany on Saturday to face the Devils. Puck drop is set for 5 pm from the Times Union center as the Pirates look for their second win of the season.

The Pirates picked up their first win of the season on Wednesday, a 4-2 decision against the Hartford Wolf Pack. Andy Miele continued his torrid scoring streak, tallying two goals in the victory to give him 5 goals and 8 points on the year. Miele's goals gave him 115 in his Pirates' career and a point in every game this season. Daine Todd added three assists on the night, and both Jordan Szwarz and Chris Brown added tallies of their own in the win. Mark Visentin stopped 18 shots to pick up the win in his third start of the season.

The Devils faced the Wolf Pack on Friday night, 4-3. In a rare occurrence, Albany's Harri Pesonen was awarded 2 penalty shots on the night and was stopped by both Jeff Malcolm and Scott Stajcer for the Wolf Pack. However, Albany scored 4 straight goals, with 10 different Devils tallying points on the night. Scott Wedgewood made 23 saves for the Devils in the victory.

The last time these two teams faced resulted in a 2-0 shutout by the Pirates on Go Red! Night in February, as Mark Visentin saved all 20 shots he faced in the victory. This is the first of 4 meetings between the two teams this season. In addition to Miele's hot streak, defenseman Brandon Gormley has 5 assists on the year, putting him second on the Pirates in scoring and in the AHL's top 20 in assists. On the Devils' side, Joe Whitney leads Albany with 5 goals and 5 assists, good for 5th in the AHL in scoring, with Scott Timmins second on the team with 9 points. Both Albany goaltenders, Scott Wedgewood (1.67) and Keith Kinkaid (1.97) are ranked in the top ten in the AHL in goals against average.

Key Bank Key to the Game

Follow the Leaders: Wednesday's performance by the Pirates saw the team leaders in goals (Miele) and assists (Gormley) tally points as well as last year's leader in goals (Brown).
