PORTLAND, Ore. - The San Diego Padres today recalled Portland Beavers right-hander Dennis Tankersley.

Tankersley, 25, was 3-2 with a league-leading 2.29 ERA (13er, 51.0ip) in eight starts with the Beavers. He was a perfect 3-0 over his last five starts, posting a 1.69 ERA (6er, 32.0ip) in those appearances.

Tankersley, originally a 38th-round pick of the Boston Red Sox in 1998, was named the Pacific Coast League Pitcher of the Week for the seven-day span of May 3-9, going 2-0 with 13 strikeouts and a 0.66 ERA (1er, 13.2ip) in victories over Salt Lake and Edmonton.

In parts of two seasons in the major leagues, Tankersley is 1-5 with a 9.29 ERA (53er, 51.1ip) over 18 appearances (10 starts). He made one start for the Padres in 2003, allowing seven runs on three hits and four walks without retiring a batter, April 9 at San Francisco.

In four seasons with Portland, Tankersley is 15-19 with a 4.17 ERA in 47 starts.

Also on Friday, the Padres recalled right-hander Rod Beck from extended spring training, placed infielder Ramon Vazquez on the 15-day disabled list (right-oblique strain) and outrighted left-hander Eddie Oropesa to Portland.

Oropesa, 32, posted a 2-1 record with an 11.00 ERA (11er, 9.0ip) in 16 games out of the bullpen with the Padres. Signed as a minor league free agent on December 23, 2003, Oropesa is 8-4 with a 6.94 ERA (75er, 92.0ip) in 109 career appearances since breaking into the big leagues in 2001.
