Sudbury Wolves News Release

The Sudbury Wolves were at home Friday night to host the Kitchener Rangers for the one and only time this season. Wolves' goaltender SAM TANGUAY stole the show leading the Wolves to a 2-1 win over the Rangers.

Sudbury Wolves leading scorer MATT SCHMALZ got the Wolves on the board first on a power play goal midway through the opening frame from Captain BRODY SILK and PAVEL JENYS. DAVID ZEPPIERI and DOUG BLAISDELL dropped the gloves with two and a half minutes left in the first. TANGUAY stood tall in net and the Wolves were able to get out of the first period with the 1-0 lead despite being outshot 13-6.

The Rangers tied things mid way through the second on a goal by MIKE DAVIES. The goal was unassisted. Shots on goal after the 2nd were 27 to 15 in favour of the Rangers.

The third period saw a number of close chances to get the go ahead goal for both teams; however it was the Wolves who were able to put the puck in the net first. Overage defenceman, JEFF CORBETT was the hero in this contest as he put the puck past Rangers' netminder DAWSON CARTY to give the Wolves a 2-1 lead half way through the frame. TANGUAY shut the door to help the Wolves clinch the win for the Wolves. Final shots on goal were 35 to 25 in favour of the Rangers.

The Molson Canadian Three Stars were:

1st - Samuel Tanguay

2nd - Jeff Corbett

3rd - Michael Pezzetta

The Wolves are back in action Sunday as they host the Central Division leaders, the Barrie Colts at 2:00pm. Tickets are on-sale now at greatersudbury.ca or at the Sudbury Arena Box Office beginning Sunday at 11:00am.
