Kitchener Rangers News Release
Ryan MacInnis scored and added an assist for the Kitchener Rangers in a 6-3 loss to the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds on Saturday night. Max Iafrate and Adam Mascherin also recorded goals in the losing effort.
The Greyhounds opened the scoring late in the first period. Michael Bunting moved a quick pass to Jared McCann at the side on the net and the third year pivot lifted a shot over Jake Paterson for his 29th of the season. Import forward Sergey Tolchinsky also picked up an assist on the play.
Kitchener led shots on goal 11-9 after the first period.
Sault Ste. Marie scored a pair of goals early in the second, capitalizing on a five minute power play opportunity. Defenceman Anthony DeAngelo beat Paterson with a quick shot, recording his 16th of the year, with assists from McCann and Tolchinsky.
Less than a minute later, sophomore Zachary Senyshyn added a second marker on the extended man advantage. Swedish rearguard Gustav Bouramman's shot on goal was redirected past Paterson by the Nepean, ON native. Bunting earned his second point of the night with an assist on Senyshyn's 21st of the season.
The Rangers responded with a power play marker just before the halfway point. Max Iafrate hammered a heavy shot through traffic past starter Brandon Halverson, potting the seventh goal of his overage campaign. Team scoring leader Ryan MacInnis and second-year winger Mike Davies picked up the helpers on the play.
MacInnis pulled the Rangers within one late in the period with a short-handed marker. Doug Blaisdell jarred the puck loose in the Rangers zone and the Arizona Coyotes prospect picked it up, carrying it to the net and snapping it past Halverson for his 19th of the year.
The Rangers out-shot the Greyhounds 13-12 in the second period.
McCann's second of the game put Sault Ste. Marie in front 4-2 near the five minute mark of the final frame. The centreman picked up a pass from Tolchinsky in front of the net, and pitched a shot past Paterson, recording his third point of the night. Bunting earned his third helper of the game on the play.
The trio connected again halfway through the period, when McCann's behind the back pass connected with Tolchinsky at the front of the net. His shot was deflected by Bunting past Paterson, putting the Hounds ahead by three. Bunting's 31st of the year was also his fourth point of the night.
A power play tally from Adam Mascherin pulled Kitchener within two with seven minutes to play. Dylan DiPerna connected with the freshman beside the Greyhounds net, and his shot ricocheted off a skate and bounced under Halverson. The Maple, ON native's tenth of the season was also assisted by Frank Hora.
Senyshyn hit an empty Rangers net with 1:12 to play to seal a 6-3 Greyhounds win. Tim Gettinger and Gabe Guertler picked up the assists on the play.
Sault Ste. Marie led shots on goal 20-10 in the third, and finished with a 41-34 overall advantage.
The Rangers lead the four game season series two games to one.
