Belleville Bulls News Release
BELLEVILLE, ON - The Belleville Bulls hosted the Saignaw Spirit for the first and only time Saturday night at the Yardmen Arena for Pink in The Rink 2015. After being held goaless by the Peterborough Petes on Thursday night, the Bulls found the offensive fire power they have enjoyed recently as they used a 5 goal first period to hand the Spirit their seventh loss in a row.
It didn't take long for the boys in pink to find the back of the net in front of 2,400 fans. Over age forward Brett Gustavsen opened the scoring just 1:30 into the opening period. Fellow over-ager Adam Bignell and winger Michael Cramarossa picked up helpers on the games first tally. Just over two minutes later, Bulls captain Brett Welychka made it a two-goal game when he potted his 13th of the season from Wellington, Ontario native Alex Yuill and forward Stephen Harper.
The Bulls weren't finished as they kept applying the pressure on starting netminder David Ovsjannikov. At 6:44 Maurizio Colella scored his 3rd of the campaign that ended Ovsjannikov's night. Line mate Jake Bricknell picked up the assist.
Less than two minutes later blue liner Adam Bignell finished off a great passing play and buried his first career OHL goal. Defenceman Justin Lemcke and Cramarossa were credited with the assists. Saginaw stopped the bleeding at 10:58 when 1996-born Kris Bennett beat Charlie Graham and netted his 7th of the season. Left-winger Connor Brown and Barrie, Ontario native Michael Holmes added the assists on Saginaw's only goal of the contest.
Belleville wraped up a five-goal period when Cramarossa potted his 12th of the year. Gustavsen and Lemcke picked up their second points of the night with assists on the play.
The middle frame was much quieter as neither team could find the back of the net. Saginaw had a couple of chances on the man advantage but Graham kept the door shut.
Half way through the third period, Welland, Ontario native Niki Petti added one more for the home team. Harper added his second assist of the night on the goal that sent the Spirit packing.
With the win the Bulls improve to 24-24-3-4. Charlie Graham made 29 saves in the win.
