Brampton Steelheads News Release

Ottawa, ON - Looking to snap a four-game losing streak, the Steelheads visited the Ottawa 67s Saturday afternoon for their second of three games in as many days. The Trout had less than 24 hours rest as they got into Ottawa at 3:00 am Saturday morning after a 4-1 home loss to the Kingston Frontenacs on Friday night. The 67s, who currently sit third in the Eastern Conference standings, looked to extend their streak to 7-straight wins.

Jacob Brennan would get his second straight start for the Steelheads and Herbst would get his second straight for the 67s. Mississauga had a strong start, showing good speed and control early on. Nathan Todd would get the first opportunity with a short angle shot that was easily handled by Brennan. Although the Steelheads had a strong start, it would be Ottawa who would open the scoring with a goal from Jeremiah Addison at 2:05. Graham and Salituro picked up the assists. The Trout would answer back just over a minute later as a Bobby MacIntyre snap shot beat Herbst blocker side to tie things up at 1. Nathan Bastian drew the assist on MacIntyre's second of the season. The remainder of the first frame would be all Ottawa, starting with a power play goal from Todd. Mississauga would have a chance to tie things up again as the 67s would sit for a too many men penalty, but an unfortunate bounce off the boards sprung Mallette who capitalized with a shorthanded marker to increase Ottawa's lead 3-1. Penalties would continue to prove costly for the Steelheads as Evan de Haan was left all alone in front of the Mississauga goal, and he made no mistake to put the 67s up 4-1. With time winding down in the first, Salituro would give the 67s a 4-goal cushion with another power play goal as Ottawa went 3/3 on the man advantage and closed out the first with a 5-1 lead.

After a busy first period, the Steelheads were able to keep the 67s at bay for the majority of the second. Taylor Davis would take a tripping penalty at 6:09, giving the Steelheads their second power play of the game. That man-advantage would be the best effort put forth by the Trout all game, and it paid off as Brandon Devlin was able to narrow the gap with a blast from the point. Sam Babintsev and Bryson Cianfrone picked up the assists on Devlin's 16th of the season. After being contained for the first 18 minutes of the second, the 67s pulled away again with two late goals from Todd and Salituro respectively giving Ottawa a 7-2 lead heading into the second intermission.

Nathan Bastian had the lone goal of the third as the Ottawa 67s won their 7th straight game, and the Trout dropped their 5th straight. The Steelheads return home tomorrow to host the Guelph Storm for their annual Pink at the Rink game presented by your Local State Farm Agents at 2:00 pm at the Hershey Centre.
