Belleville Bulls News Release
BELLEVILLE, ON - The Belleville Bulls host the Saginaw Spirit for the first and only time this season on Saturday night. The Bulls are hoping to rebound after being shutout 3-0 by the Peterborough Petes in the Liftlock city on Thursday night. Saginaw kicked off their current four game road trip with back-to-back losses to London and Ottawa. Puck drop is set for 7:05pm on this special night at the Yardmen Arena.
The 67's jumped out to an early 2-0 lead on Friday night and didn't look back as they handed the Spirit their sixth consecutive loss. Over age centre Jacob Ringuette was the lone goal scorer for Saginaw. Blake Clarke and Dylan Sadowy picked up helpers in the loss at TD place. Netminder Evan Cormier made 23 saves.
Despite the current six game losing skid, Sadowy leads the club offensively with 35 goals and 30 assists in 54 games played. Peterborough, Ontario native Mitchell Stephens has also been a steady contributor as he has buried 19 goals and handed out 19 assists in 50 games played. Cormier and fellow goaltender David Ovsjannikov have spit ice time pretty evenly since the departure of Detroit Red Wings prospect Jake Patterson. Cormier owns a .897 save percentage while Ovsjannikov has a .879.
The Belleville Bulls suffered a 3-0 loss at the Peterborough Memorial Centre on Thursday night. The Pete's out shot the visiting Bulls 42-30. Toronto native Charlie Graham made 39 saves in the loss. The loss helped Peterborough hurdle the Kingston Frontenacs in the OHL's Eastern Conference playoff race. Now Kingston and Peterborough are tied with 50 points each, just 3 points behind the sixth place Bulls.
The Bulls will look for more offense from Vancouver Canucks prospect Jordan Subban who has 22 goals and 21 assists in 53 games played. Bulls Captain, Brett Welychka has also been strong up front for the Bulls of late picking up four points in the last five games played.
Just six points separate four teams looking to keep their playoff hopes alive. With just 12 games remaining in the regular season, the Bulls need to take care of business on home ice and pick up a very important two points.
