Tampa Bay Lightning Recall Defenseman Slater Koekkoek

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Tampa Bay Lightning have recalled defenseman Slater Koekkoek from the Syracuse Crunch, Lightning vice president and general manager Steve Yzerman announced today.

Koekkoek, 6-foot-2, 198-pounds, played in the Crunch's season opener last week. He made his NHL debut with the Lightning last season on March 31 against the Toronto Maple Leafs and went on to play in three games with six shots on goal. He made his professional debut on October 12, 2014 with the Crunch. He led all Syracuse blue-liners last season for assists with 21 and points with 26.

A native of Mountain, Ontario, Koekkoek has played in 73 career AHL games, all with Syracuse, notching five goals and 26 points with a plus-7 rating. He also skated with the Crunch during the 2015 Calder Cup Playoffs and recorded one assist in three games.

Koekkoek, 21, was drafted by the Lightning in the first round, 10th overall, of the 2012 NHL Draft.

The Syracuse Crunch 2015-16 home opener is Saturday, Oct. 17 at 7 p.m. Single game and season tickets are on sale now and can be purchased either in person at the Crunch Box Office located in the War Memorial on 800 South State Street in Syracuse or by calling the office at 315-473-4444.
