San Jose Barracuda News Release
STOCKTON, CA - The San Jose Barracuda (1-1-0-0, 2pts) presented by Barracuda Networks picked up their first win in franchise history with a commanding 4-1 victory over the host Stockton Heat (1-1-0-0, 2pts) in front of 3,063 fans at the Stockton Arena on Thursday evening.
Micheal Haley (1-1-2) and Nikita Jevpalovs (1-1-2) each had multipoint games for the Barracuda while Aaron Dell made 25 saves in net for San Jose in the victory. Scott Timmins and Ryan Carpenter also scored for the Barracuda while Karl Stollery and Joakim Ryan each finished with an assist and +3.
Neither team found the back of the net in a scoreless first period with Stockton holding a 5-4 shot advantage despite the Barracuda holding the edge on power play chances 2-1.
San Jose charged out to a 3-0 lead in the second period and outshot Stockton 11-7. Ryan Carpenter (1st) scored on a breakaway opportunity past goaltender Jon Gillies just 28 seconds into the middle frame assisted by Micheal Haley. Micheal Haley (2nd) gave the Barracuda a 2-0 advantage at 8:01 with a terrific shot that made its way just inside the cross bar from a tough angle down low after an offensive zone faceoff. After a long video review, Scott Timmins (1st) goal stood after he shuffled a rebound try past the Heat netminder at 15:44 to give San Jose a 3-0 lead into the second intermission.
The Stockton Heat brought a charge early in the third period as Derek Grant (3rd) got the Heat on the board at 6:31 on a delayed penalty call as Grant split the Barracuda defense and shuffled a shot over the shoulder of Aaron Dell. But San Jose got the score right back as Nikita Jevpalovs (1st) scored his first professional goal after a great set up from Adam Helewka and Joakim Ryan at 8:07. Goaltender Aaron Dell made 13 third period saves and sealed the deal as the Barracuda picked up their first win in franchise history by the score of 4-1.
