Kansas City Monarchs News Release
KANSAS CITY, Kan. - The Kansas City T-Bones have announced the signing of veteran outfielder Ray Sadler.
Sadler, 6-foot-1 and 210 pounds, is no stranger to the T-Bones. He spent 2010 and '11 with the club, batting .317 with 45 home runs and 183 RBIs (including 100 in '11) in 197 games.
"For a guy to have that much production, there's an understanding of how to hit in those situations," said T-Bones manager Kenny Hook. "He's a good, consistent hitter who knows what pitchers want to throw to him in certain situations. It's not like he got 100 RBIs last year with guys grooving fastballs. They were being careful and he still got 100. He's a constant reminder of how to do the little things to help your team win."
The Chicago Cubs drafted Sadler, a native of Clifton, Texas, in the 30th round in 1999. He has spent time at nearly every level of professional baseball, including three games with the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2005. Besides the Cubs and Pirates, he's played in the minor leagues for Houston and Tampa Bay, also. This spring he's been playing in the Italian Baseball League.
"He's a great example of how to prepare and play every day in pro baseball," Hook said. "He does early work and he's ready to play every day. He's as solid and consistent, whether he's 0-for-4 or 4-for-4. He embodies all that you hear about veteran leadership."
Sadler is scheduled to be in uniform when the T-Bones return to action on Friday night against Amarillo at CommunityAmerica Ballpark. First pitch is 7:05.
To make room for Sadler, the T-Bones placed outfielder Sean Henry on irrevocable waivers for the purpose of giving him his unconditional release.
