St. Paul Saints News Release
QUEBEC, QC (May 31, 2012) - Prior to the game on Thursday night Quebec les Capitales received their Can-Am Championship rings from the 2011 season. They would then put on a championship caliber performance as the St. Paul Saints lost 9-2 on Thursday night.
The Saints pitching staff walked eight les Capitales, hit a batter and combined with nine hits was enough to do plenty of damage. With the scored tied at one in the fourth les Capitales scored four runs and never looked back. Paul Karmas led off with a walk and a single by Patrick D'Aoust put runners at first and second. Catcher Alex Garabedian was able to pick off Karmas at second, but that took the bunt off for Josue Peley, who wound up doubling home D'Aoust to make it 2-1 and Peley went to third on the throw. A sac fly by Steve Brown made it 3-1. The number nine hitter Josh Colafemina, who entered play hitting .067, walked and then Jeff Helps walked. Jonathan Malo hit a grounder to short, but Adam Frost misplayed it which allowed Colafemina to score making it 4-1. The final run of the inning scored on a single by Sebastian Boucher.
The Saints, despite leaving a runner on base in every inning, but the first, didn't threaten too much against les Capitales starter Karl Gelinas. He gave up an unearned run in the third and the Saints only had a man in scoring position in two other innings against Gelinas. He went 7.0 innings allowing one unearned run on eight hits while walking one and striking out six.
The Saints did manage 11 hits with Tanner Townsend collecting two hits, a double and a solo homer in the eighth, his third of the season while Adam Frost went 3-4 with a stolen base and a run scored.
The Saints now head to Bears & Eagles Riverfront Stadium for a three game series against the Newark Bears beginning at 6:35 p.m. eastern, 5:35 p.m. central. The Saints send RHP Wes Roemer (1-0, 2.70) to the mound. The game can be heard on Club 1220 KLBB.
