Kansas City Monarchs News Release

KANSAS CITY, Kan. - With the Kansas City T-Bones scheduled to begin the 2013 season on Thursday in Wichita, manager Kenny Hook made a series of roster moves to get the roster to 22 active players.

On Monday, the T-Bones announced the signing of Jose Jimenez, a 5-foot-11 and 210-pound left-handed pitcher from Barinas, Venezuela. Jimenez has spent the last eight seasons in the Seattle Mariners organization, reaching triple-A Tacoma in 2012. During his eight seasons, Jimenez has a 20-21 record with a 4.39 ERA and 27 saves. Jimenez, who posted a 1-1 record and 4.32 ERA in 32 games this past season in the Venezuelan Winter League, was in spring training this season with the Kansas City Royals.

In order to get the roster to 22 players, the T-Bones released Marquis Riley, Craig Hertler, Kyle Roliard, Gaspar Santiago, Derek McGowan and Mike Thomas.

"I'm happy with the 22 guys we're starting the season with," said T-Bones manager Kenny Hook. "As most any manager will tell you, there might be some holes here and there at this time, but we were able to address a lot of needs in the offseason and throughout the spring training, and I think we have a good mix of veterans at key positions, a stronger rotation and bullpen, and a solid lineup with righties and lefties."

The T-Bones open their 11th regular season on Thursday night at Wichita, with the home opener at CommunityAmerica Ballpark on Saturday, May 18, also against Wichita. First pitch in that game is set for 7:05 p.m.
