T-Bones blast Cracker-Cats to earn doubkeheader split

KANSAS CITY, Kan. - After a 2-0 loss in game one of Tuesday's doubleheader with Edmonton (10-8), the T-Bones (8-11) bats exploded for 13 hits and nine runs to salvage a split with a 9-2 win in front of 4,625 fans at CommunityAmerica Ballpark.
Fans were treated to a pitcher's duel throughout the early innings as both teams recorded just two hits through three innings. Kansas City's bats finally came to life in the bottom of the fourth, however. Greg Jacobs became the first of five straight batters to record a hit in the inning with a single to right field. Things took a turn for the worse for the Cracker-Cats as Jeff Little began to struggle with his control, walking two T-Bones with bases loaded. When the dust had settled, Kansas City had scored seven runs on six hits in its most productive inning of the season.
The T-Bones put another run on the scoreboard when a sky-scraping fly ball by Craig Hurba barely cleared the left field fence for his second long ball of the season.
The Cracker-Cats began to stir in the sixth inning. Derek Patterson found his way on base with a single to right. Patterson scored when Greg Morrison hit his fourth home run of the season as Edmonton placed their only two runs on the scoreboard.
Kansas City responded with its final run when Jacobs sent Michael Spidale home on an RBI single to left field. The hit gave Jacobs a perfect 4-for-4 performance at the plate.
Jonathan Krysa (3-2) was outstanding once again, hurling five innings of scoreless baseball. Morrison's home run brought an end to Krysa's streak of 14 consecutive scoreless innings. Krysa also recorded five strikeouts, giving him 324 K's in his four-year stint with the T-Bones. Krysa now needs just two to tie Jeremy McGarity as the club's all-time strikeout leader.
The T-Bones have one last shot at the Cracker-Cats, as the clubs will conclude their three-game series with an 11:05 a.m. game Wednesday at CommunityAmerica Ballpark. RHP Larry Robles (3-1, 2.42) takes the mound for Kansas City, while Edmonton will counter with RHP Reggie Rivard (2-2, 5.40).
