
Eight run fifth inning carries RedHawks past Flyers

FARGO, N.D. *- Richard Austin hit his third career grand slam to cap off an eight-run fifth inning for Fargo-Moorhead as the RedHawks pounded flew past the Flyers, 15-6, in front of 3,501 at Newman Outdoor Field on Tuesday.
Fargo-Moorhead took an early 5-0 lead through the first two innings but allowed Schaumburg to get back into the game as the Flyers scored two runs in the third inning and two more in the fourth inning.
With just a one run lead heading into the bottom of the fifth inning, 5-4, the RedHawks posted eight runs on just two hits to take a 13-4 lead at innings end.
The Schaumburg pitching staff walked the first batter, Austin, and gave up the first home run of the inning to the very next batter, Jesse Hoorelbeke. After Hoorelbeke, the Flyers walked five of the next seven batters, allowing two runs to score before Austin stepped to the plate and sent his fifth home run of the season over the right field wall.
Both teams added two more runs in the eighth inning for a game-ending score of 15-6.
At the plate the RedHawks collected 11 hits in the game and reached base on as many walks. Jesse Hoorelbeke led the way for Fargo-Moorhead going 3-for-5 and driving in four runs. Austin also drove in four runs and went 1-for-1 at the plate as he was walk four times tying a Northern League record for most walks in a game.
Todd George earned the win for Fargo-Moorhead after going 5.0 innings in which he allowed four runs on five hits. With the win he moved to 2-0 on the season. The loss was credited to Schaumburg's Ian Holsen who saw his record fall to 0-1 on the season.
Fargo-Moorhead (14-5) continues to hold the best record in the Northern League and will face Schaumburg (13-6) in the series finale that is schedule to get underway at 12:35 p.m. Mike Peschel (0-1, 5.74) is set to take the mound for Fargo-Moorhead and will face Kenny Durost (0-1, 5.54).
