Schaumburg Flyers News Release

The Flyers lost their third game of the season to the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks 15-6 at Newman Outdoor Field in Fargo, North Dakota, in front of 3,501 in a time of 2 hours 42 minutes.

The game started off on the wrong foot for the Flyers as the RedHawks were able to take the early 5- 0 lead after two innings. Five singles, two passed balls, and three walks issued by starter Ian Holmen is all the RedHawks needed to get two runs in the first and three in the second inning to jump out to the early lead.

The Flyers were able to make it a good game by getting two runs in the third inning from Geoff McCallum's first homerun of the season, a two run shot over the right field wall scoring both himself and Nelson Gord. Schaumburg would then bring the game within one run by scoring two more in the top half of the fourth inning. Jarrod Patterson had the big hit of the inning with a double into center field. Eric Cole and Ben Van Iderstine came around to score and the Flyers only trailed 5-4 going into the bottom of the fifth inning.

The RedHawks were able to take the momentum away from the Flyers in the bottom half of the fifth inning scoring eight runs on only two hits. Walks were what hurt the Flyers in this half of the inning. Holmen gave up a lead off walk to Richard Austin and then watched his 2-2 pitch get knocked over the left field fence by Jesse Hoorelbeke to put the RedHawks up 7-5. After walking the next batter Brent Krause, Holmen would be replaced by Derrick Ellison who wouldn't fair much better. Ellison came in and walked five of the next seven batters, forcing in two RedHawk batters by way of bases loaded walks. Austin would come back up for the second time in the fifth and deliver the big blow, a grand-slam homerun over the right field wall putting the RedHawks up 13- 4 going into the sixth inning.

Both teams would score two more runs in the eighth, as the Flyers were unable to come back from the nine run deficit and ended up losing their second straight game in Fargo. They dropped the second game of a three game series against the RedHawks by a total of 15-6. Flyers pitchers issued a total of eleven walks throughout the game, seven of which came in the eight run fifth inning.

The Flyers will look to pick up their first win in the third game of the road trip tomorrow at 12:35 in Fargo at Newman Outdoor Field. Schaumburg will return home on June 8 and play the first of four games against Joliet at 7:05 at Alexian Field.
