Seattle Thunderbirds News Release
Seattle, October 15, 2006 - The Seattle Thunderbirds went into overtime for the second time in two nights, as they beat the Spokane Chiefs 4-3 Sunday night in front of 2,406 at KeyArena.
Rookie Radek Meidl got his first hat trick in the WHL with two goals in the first period and the game- winner in overtime. All three goals came on the power play.
With the T-Birds on the power-play, Thomas Hickey took a slapshot that missed, but was recovered by Jan Eberle. Eberle tried for the put back from the left crease, but was denied by Spokane goalie Kevin Armstrong (2-2-2). The puck rebounded off Armstrong and trickled right of the crease where Meidl had skated in for the game- winner. Seattle is now 3-3-0-3, gaining four out of six points over the weekend.
The Thunderbirds struck first at 4:05 of the opening period on an unassisted goal from Kyle Pess. The T- Birds crossed into their zone with a two-on-one break led by Pess along the near boards. Pess lost control of the puck near the goal line, but quickly regained it in the left corner and took a wrister that snuck between the left post and skate of Armstrong. It was the third goal of the season for Pess.
The T-Birds made it 2-0 at 6:48 of the first on a power-play goal from Meidl. Hickey's slapshot from above the left face-off circle ricocheted off the pads of Armstrong and trickled right of the crease to Meidl. Schappert unleashed a one- timer that sailed towards the goal. Meidl used his stick to redirect the shot past the left shoulder of Armstrong for the power-play score and the 3-0 lead.

The Chiefs made it 3-1 at 4:42 of the second period on a goal from Derek Ryan. Corey Courchene had the lone assist.
