Seventh Heaven - Americans Beat Chilliwack, Win Streak at Seven Games

October 15, 2006 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Tri-City Americans News Release

KENNEWICK, WA - Consider the message sent.

It was a fitting coincidence that the Tri-City Americans wore their new third jerseys on the night they played the team that they almost became. The Tri-City Americans announced, with authority, that this team has moved on and is very capable of success. Tri-City scored three goals in the second period and, with a 5-1 victory over the Chilliwack Bruins, rolled on to their seventh straight win at the Toyota Center. Since winning their inaugural game, the Bruins have lost nine in a row.

Oscar Moller scored on the Bruins' first power play opportunity at the 15:51 mark, and Chilliwack took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission. It would be the only blemish on Americans goaltender Chet Pickard's record tonight, as he collected 19 saves and his third win of the season.

Off passes from Nic Knudsen and Shaun Vey, Tri-City tied the game at 1-all, with D Tyler Schmidt's third goal of the season. LW Colton Yellow Horn registered his first of two goals on the night at the 12:39 mark of the second period, followed by RW Taylor Procyshen's short-handed goal with just over five minutes to play in the period. The Americans took a 3-1 lead into the second intermission, which is all they would need.

However, despite necessity, the Americans would add two more goals in the third period. C Ladislav Scurko tallied his second goal of the season off a power play at the 8:41 mark of the third period. With four minutes remaining in the contest, off an assist from Michael Kaye, Yellow Horn would cap off the scoring with his fifth goal of the season.

The Americans will now focus their attention on the three-time defending, U.S. Division Champion Everett Silvertips. Tri-City will travel to the Everett Events Center on Tuesday, October 17, with a puck drop scheduled for 7:00 PM. You can catch all the action live on NewsTalk 870, starting with the Budweiser Warm-Up Show at 6:45 PM. You can also listen live through the Americans website by visiting the Internet Radio Broadcast page under Fanzone or by visiting the individual game summary page.
