
T-Birds Knock Off Americans

Kennewick, WA, September 5, 2008 - The Seattle Thunderbirds defeated the Tri-City Americans 3-1 Friday night in their first game at the Red Lion Hotels Preseason Tournament at the Toyota Center in Kennewick.
The T-Birds second game in the preseason tournament is Saturday, September 6, against the Portland Winter Hawks at 2 p.m. at the Toyota Center.
With the win the T-Birds are now 2-2 in preseason with three games remaining. The Americans opened the scoring at 9:35 of the first period when Spencer Asuchak scored an unassisted goal.
Both teams had 10 shots on goal in the first period.
The second period was scoreless as the Americans outshot the T-Birds 8-4.
Jacob DeSerres stared in net for the T-Birds and made 12 saves on 13 shots. He was replaced halfway through the game by Calvin Pickard.
Drew Owsley started in goal for the Americans. He saved 11 all he shots he saw in his 30 minutes of action. Owsley was replaced by Chet Pickard, older brother of Calvin.
The T-Birds scored three goals in just over a four- minute span in the third period to seal the game.
Defenseman Brenden Dillon scored an unassisted goal at 6:54 of the third.
Jeremy Boyer scored his third preseason goal, this one coming at 7:19 of the third on an assist from Devon LeBlanc, to put the T-Birds in front 2-1.
Colin Haas, acquired on Thursday from the Prince George Cougars in a trade, scored at 10:59 of the third to put the T-Birds in front by two goals. Brenden Silvester had the only assist on the goal.
Seattle outshot Tri-City 11-6 in the third period and finished with a 26-24 advantage in total shots.
Calvin Pickard stopped all shots he saw to get the win for the T-Birds.
Chet Pickard made 11 saves on 14 shots and was credited with the loss.
The T-Birds travel to Portland to take on the Winter Hawks on Friday, September 12, at 7 p.m. at Memorial Coliseum.
The T-Birds only home exhibition game of the preseason will be Saturday, September 13, at Kent Valley Ice Centre against the Portland Winter Hawks. Game time is 6 p.m. Tickets can be purchased by calling the T-Birds at 206-448-PUCK, at any Ticketmaster outlet or at Kent Valley Ice Centre.
T-Birds season tickets are also currently on sale. Season tickets can be purchased by calling the T- Birds office at 425-869-7825. Purchasing a season ticket will ensure fans can attend both the home opener at the KeyArena on October 4 and the T-Birds first game in their new home, the Kent Events Center.
