Saint John Flames News Release

SAINT JOHN, NB - Saint John Flames goaltender Levente Szuper will represent his country as a member of the Hungarian National Hockey Team at the 2002 World Championships. The Hungarian National Team will compete in Group 'B' of Division I with teams from Norway, Great Britain, Denmark, China and Romania. This year's tournament is scheduled for April 14th through April 20th in Szuper's hometown of Budapest.

Szuper, a member of Saint John's 2001 Calder Cup Championship team, recently completed his second full season with the Flames. He played in 42 regular season games in 2001-02 posting a 15-17-5 record with five shutouts and a 2.43 goals against average. His five regular season shutouts set a new single season club record and brought his career shutout total to seven, a new all-time Franchise mark. Szuper was the Calgary Flames fourth round selection, 116th overall, in the 2000 National Hockey League Entry Draft.

The 2002 tournament marks Szuper's second trip with the Hungarian National Team to the World Championships. In 1998, Szuper led the Hungarian squad to a gold medal in Group 'C', earning the team a promotion to Group 'B' for the 1999 tournament. He also represented his country at the 1995, 1996 and 1997 World Junior Championships. A gold medal victory in this year's tournament would elevate Hungary to Group 'A' for next year's World Championship.

The Saint John Flames are the primary development organization of the NHL's Calgary Flames and have been a member of the American Hockey League since 1993.
