Labbe To Throw Out First Pitch At SkyChiefs Game

Syracuse, NY (April 9, 2002) - The Syracuse Crunch announced today that All-Star goaltender J.F. Labbe will throw out the ceremonial first pitch on Wednesday, April 10 prior to the Syracuse SkyChiefs game against the Pawtucket Red Sox at P&C Stadium.

Labbe is coming off one of his best regular season performance, leading the Crunch to their first-ever division and conference championships. In 51 games for the Crunch Labbe recorded an AHL leading nine shutouts, a 27-16-7 record, an AHL fifth-best 2.18 goals against average and an AHL third-best .928 save percentage. Labbe's nine shutouts tied a 59-year old AHL record (Geordie Bell, Buffalo 1942-43) for most shutouts in a season. He won his first National Hockey League game on March 12, 2002 against the Pittsburgh Penguins. Labbe has appeared in four career NHL games with the New York Rangers and Columbus Blue Jackets.

A native of Sherbrooke, Quebec, Labbe is the AHL's modern-era wins leader with 201. A four-time AHL All-Star, Labbe has won two Calder Cups (Hershey, 1996-97 & Hartford, 1999-00). He was the AHL's MVP in 1996-97 as a member of the Hershey Bears.

The Crunch will open the first round of the Calder Cup Playoffs this weekend against either Cincinnati, Rochester or Philadelphia (dates to be determined).
