Swope Park Rangers Sign Jaylin Lindsey to Academy Contract
May 6, 2016 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Sporting Kansas City II News Release
The Swope Park Rangers have signed Sporting Kansas City Academy product Jaylin Lindsey to an Academy contract, the club announced today. Lindsey joins Ezra Armstrong, Will Little and Steven Tekesky as players under Academy contracts on the Rangers roster. Lindsey will still be available to play for the Sporting KC Academy and the contract will not affect his NCAA eligibility.
Lindsey, a defender by trade, joined the Sporting KC Academy in January 2015, making 24 appearances - including 15 so far in the 2015-16 U.S. Soccer Development Academy season while splitting time between the Under-18s and Under-16s. In addition, Lindsey has spent significant time training with the Rangers as well as Sporting KC in 2016, and was part of SPR's two-week preseason camp in Tucson, Ariz.
Lindsey, a native of Charlotte, N.C., made his first appearance for the Rangers in a scrimmage last month against the University of Tulsa, playing the opening 68 minutes at center back.
The 16-year-old has been a constant presence in the U.S. Youth National Team setup, representing the U.S. at Under-17, Under-15 and Under-14 levels. His most recent call up came in January 2016 when he was named to the U.S. U-17 National Team for the 2016 Mercedes-Benz Aegean Cup in Turkey, where he made two appearances, coming against Turkey and Romania.
The Swope Park Rangers are back in action on Saturday night when they take on cross-state rival Saint Louis FC at WWT Soccer Park in Fenton, Mo. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. CT and the game will be available via live stream on SportingKC.com.
