Saint Louis FC Begins Series with Swope Park
May 6, 2016 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Saint Louis FC News Release
Last Time Out:
Saint Louis FC's match with Vancouver Whitecaps 2 was postponed due to lightning within the designated ten mile radius for over five hours last Saturday. The makeup date for match 7 is still to be determined.
Prior to last week's postponement, Saint Louis FC traveled to Sacramento and defeated the Republic FC 1-0. Mike Ambersley scored his first goal of the season and Chicago Fire goalkeeper Patrick McLain earned a clean sheet to propel STLFC to victory.
The Opponent:
Swope Park Rangers' last match was against the Vancouver Whitecaps 2 where the Rangers suffered a 2-1 defeat on their home turf at Children's Mercy Victory Field. Kris Tyrpak put the Rangers ahead early in the match with his first goal of the season, but the Whitecaps responded with goals from Kyle Greig and Ben McKendry. The Rangers made an effort to come back with 10 shots, 6 on goal, but could not make it past Vancouver's defense.
Daniel Salloi leads Swope Park for goals and assists, with two of each.
Swope Park Rangers are new to the league this season. With five games behind them, Swope Park is in a five-way tie for 8th place out of 15 teams in the Western Conference.
This will be the first regular season match-up and the first match in a four game series between Saint Louis FC and Swope Park Rangers.
Neighbors:
Not only are St. Louis and Kansas City neighbors geographically, but they are also neighbors in the current Western Conference standings. Saint Louis is currently in 7th place and Swope Park is in 8th. The storied rivalry between these two cities is well documented and dates back to 1968 when the St. Louis Stars first met the Kansas City Spurs.
