Rochester Rhinos News Release

ROCHESTER, NY - With two notoriously strong defensive teams competing tonight, the total five goals scored were unexpected to fans who ventured out to Rhinos Stadium on a rainy Friday night. Despite giving up a lead not once, but twice, the Rhinos remain perfect at home after three straight games on home turf. Kernardo Forbes scored his second goal in the same number of games, earning him the man of the match.

Rhinos came out strong in the first 11' of the game, capitalizing on a free kick by Garzi who sent a long kick into the box drawing out Charleston goalkeeper, Tambakis. A soft touch by Farrell gave the Rhinos an early 1-0 lead. Charleston quickly countered less than five minutes later with the equalizer off the foot of Ramario Williams with service from Zach Prince.

The 21st minute led to a pair of yellow cards for both teams as the physical match between two rivals continued. In the 28th minute Dos Santos entered the box spinning and Kernardo Forbes put the ball away for his second goal in two straight matches. The Rhinos continued their attack but Volesky's diving header was stopped by Tambakis who remained solid in goal until the second. The physical first half ended with the Rhinos leading 2-1.

Both squads started with the same lineups as the game headed into the second half. Charleston dealt out an equalizer in the first two minutes of the second with a goal by Garbanzo. The goal by Garbanzo was his first of the year, on the assist from Williams on the rebound. Both teams came out of the half strong, leading to several opportunities for both. However Charleston was never able to find the back of the net and would ultimately fall to the defending champs.

The rhinos failed to capitalize in the 57' minute on their first corner kick of the game that resulted in a low shot by Dos Santos. The physicality continued well into the second half by both teams and led to several fouls on both sides. In the 74' minute a shot by Dos Santos was blocked resulting in a penalty kick for Tony Walls who made the score 3-2 with a shot straight up the middle. This would be enough to keep Rochester perfect at home.

The Rhinos next home game is Saturday, May 14 at 6:05 p.m. at Rhinos Stadium against the Charlotte Independence. Tickets for that match, as well as group sales, flex packs, and season ticket packages are available by calling (585)454-KICK (5425), by visiting the Rhinos box office at Rhinos Stadium Monday through Friday from 9AM to 5PM, or by visiting rhinossoccer.com.
