Swope Park Rangers Announce 2016 Schedule
January 26, 2016 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Sporting Kansas City II News Release
The Swope Park Rangers today announced the full schedule for the club's inaugural USL season in 2016. The side will open the campaign on Saturday, March 26 when they face Portland Timbers 2 in one of two home games at Children's Mercy Park in Kansas City, Kan.
Placed in the Western Conference, the Rangers will face regional rivals OKC Energy FC, Saint Louis FC and Tulsa Roughnecks FC on four occasions during the season, twice at home and twice on the road. SPR will also play each Texas team on three occasions, taking on Rio Grande Valley FC and San Antonio twice at home and once away.
The Rangers will face each team from the Pacific Northwest twice, playing Portland Timbers 2, Seattle Sounders FC 2 and Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2 once at home and once on the road. The team will take on the rest of the Western Conference sides once, hosting LA Galaxy II and Orange County Blues FC and travelling to play Arizona United SC, Colorado Spring Switchbacks FC, Real Monarchs SLC and Sacramento Republic FC.
SPR will endure a road-heavy start to the season, with seven of the club's first 10 games taking place away from Kansas City. The side will then play six of its final seven games at home - including a five-game homestand from August 21 through September 10.
To kick off that stretch of games, the Rangers will face cross-state rivals Saint Louis FC on Sunday, Aug. 21 in the second of two games at Children's Mercy Park. That game will mark the series finale between the sides as Kansas City and St. Louis each field professional outdoor soccer teams playing in the same league for the first time since 1970.
Aside from the two games at Children's Mercy Park, each of the Rangers' 13 other home dates will be played at Children's Mercy Victory Field (formerly Championship Field) at Swope Soccer Village in Kansas City, Mo.
