USL San Antonio Announces 2016 Schedule

SAN ANTONIO - USL San Antonio will travel to Seattle to take on Sounders FC 2 on Sunday, April 3 at 7 p.m. for the club's inaugural USL match. The club will then debut in front of its home supporters at Toyota Field on Saturday, April 9 against Sporting Kansas City affiliate Swope Park Rangers at 7:30 p.m. The home opener marks the first of 15 USL regular season home games taking place at Toyota Field in 2016.

"We can't wait to kick off the season in Seattle and then host our home opener on April 9 as we bring professional soccer back to San Antonio," said USL San Antonio Head Coach Darren Powell. "The start of the season is an opportunity to begin fulfilling the goals we set out for this organization. We know San Antonio has great, passionate supporters -- that I have met myself -- and we hope to see the fans pack Toyota Field for our home opener and throughout the season, as we look to build a fantastic home field advantage."

Following the home opener on Saturday, April 9, San Antonio plays three straight matches on the road before returning home Saturday, April 30 when they host regional rival Tulsa Roughnecks FC.

Toyota Field will host the first South Texas Derby when the Rio Grande Valley Toros visit San Antonio on Saturday, May 7. The club will face the Toros four times during the season, while also meeting regional opponents Oklahoma City Energy FC and Roughnecks FC three times each in 2016.

April and July mark the busiest months for San Antonio. In both months the club will play two matches at home and four away from the Alamo City. USL San Antonio will face the defending Western Conference Champion Los Angeles Galaxy II for the first time away from home on April 13. The club hosts the Galaxy II at Toyota Field on Saturday, July 23.

USL San Antonio will play 20 Saturday matches, five Wednesday matches, four Sunday matches and one Thursday match during the 2016 season, including 11 Saturday matches at home. All home kick-off times are slated for 7:30 p.m. with the exception of Sunday, September 4, which will begin at 5 p.m.

USL San Antonio will conclude its 2016 regular season schedule on Saturday, September 24 on the road against Rio Grande Valley. The club's final home game is Saturday, September 17 against Roughnecks FC.

Fans interested in being a part of the inaugural season can place their $50 deposit for 2016 season tickets online at USLSanAntonio.com or by calling 210-444-5MLS. Tickets for individual USL San Antonio matches will go on sale on Wednesday March 9. The 2016 USL San Antonio broadcast and promotional schedules will be released at a later date.

Last month, SS&E announced that it reached an agreement with Bexar County and the City of San Antonio to operate a USL soccer franchise at Toyota Field starting in 2016. The deal is part of a collaborative effort by the city, county and SS&E to pursue bringing Major League Soccer (MLS) to the Alamo City. Five of the last seven new MLS franchises played in the USL. The soccer-specific stadium opened in April of 2013 and has a capacity of 8,500.
