Kickers Announce 2016 USL Schedule

RICHMOND, VA - The Richmond Kickers are pleased to announce the 30-game 2016 regular season schedule, and are proud to return to City Stadium for the 22nd consecutive season to host the Harrisburg City Islanders on Saturday, March 26 at 5:00 p.m.

"Our attendance at City Stadium has increased 50% over the last two seasons," commented Leigh Cowlishaw, Richmond Kickers Director of Soccer. "More and more people in the city are talking about the atmosphere and experiencing the entertainment that the Kickers have to offer. Our goal is still to make Kickers games the number one sporting event in Richmond and to replicate the energy, enthusiasm, passion and electric atmosphere we are seeing in MLS and USL cities across the USA."

Joining the Kickers in the 14-team Eastern Conference are expansion sides Bethlehem Steel FC, FC Cincinnati and Orlando City B, longtime rivals including Charleston Battery, Harrisburg City Islanders, Pittsburgh Riverhounds, Rochester Rhinos and Wilmington Hammerheads, as well as Charlotte Independence, Louisville City FC, FC Montreal, New York Red Bulls II, and Toronto FC II. The Kickers will face each opponent twice, with additional games comprised of matchups against geographic rivals.

"The USL is growing at an unprecedented rate and the competition on and off the field is at an all time high," continued Cowlishaw. "We believe City Stadium's fan atmosphere can provide the best home field advantage in the USL. The players thrive off the energy and passion generated by the hardcore fans and it's natural to want to perform at your best in that environment. We look forward to seeing more and more of the RVA community supporting the team in 2016."

Thirteen of the Kickers 15 regular season home games will be played on Saturdays, with Wednesday night matches rounding out the home schedule. With the exception of four matches, including the March 26th home opener, that kick off at 5:00 p.m., the majority of home games will being at 7:00 p.m.

"It will be another Summer of Soccer in RVA with Kickers games, live USA viewing parties for the Copa America Tournament in June and our annual high profile international exhibition game at City Stadium in July," added Cowlishaw.

The regular season concludes the weekend of September 24 and t he team with the best record across both conferences will earn the 2016 USL Regular Season Title. The top eight teams in each conference will then advance to the 2016 USL Playoffs, which will see a single-elimination bracket crown two conference champions. The two conference champions will advance to the 2016 USL Championship.
